Last night, The Eldridge played host to a hot party in honor of SVEDKA, the vodka which was recently voted #1 Vodka of 2033. We really have no idea what this means or why this is important, but the one thing we did know is that there was a complimentary SVEDKA bar from 11:00-1:00 am and that DJ Alexandra Richards, DJ Jus Ske, and DJ M.O.S. all took turns on the turn tables. This Tuesday is already turning out to be a great day. Today, we get the exclusive word that Matt Levine, of The Eldridge fame, are taking over the Saracen space in Bridgehampton this summer! The restaurant will be renamed “The Georgica” after the pond that it’s on (which they will be sharing with Ron Perelman), and will feature celebrity chefs from “Hell’s Kitchen.”

Our post on socialite Paul Johnson-Calderon stealing a purse from the Eldridge last Friday has almost 100 comments on it-and this is after the ones we have moderated for being too defamatory. It has also consistently been a top hit post each day. Today, the post showed up in the NY Post’s Page Six. Even Kristian Laliberte has written on the issue for ASW. Lesson learned: stealing is bad.  Add in the fact that we are in the biggest recession of our lives and that it’s a NYC SOCIALITE, and we’ve got a definite BUZZ issue on our hands.  We predict that the days of free giveaways to celebrities and the micro-famous is nearing its end.

You know that we are deeply set in a recession when our own favorite top tier gay socialites have to start stealing to make ends meet. It seems that Paul Johnson-Calderon (Paper Magazine writer and Peter Davis’ ex-beau) had a little case of the Recession Blues on Wednesday night at The Eldridge when he decided to leave with a young lady’s purse (not his own).  Our tip line has been bursting at the seams all day, but we were going to give PJC the benefit of the doubt and wait to get the facts straight. Then we got some hard core proof (see security camera shot at left) and decided to post (alas, we do have a job to do) . We’ve gotten several tips that even BFF Jules Kirby has also been claiming that PJC stole her blackberry weeks ago.  It’s a sad day in GofG land indeed.  Yes the drinks are pricey, and times are tough, (those bowties cost money you know), but socialites shouldn’t be filching purses…right?
