A celebration of Paris and L.A.'s top culinary masters and turntablists took over The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA over the weekend for Le Grand Fooding Crush Paris-L.A. 2013. Presented by French dining guide Le Fooding, the ticketed two-day event kicked off on Saturday with a champagne-filled urban picnic of delicious cuisine by superstar L.A. and Paris chefs for local gourmands and foodies.

Following evening live music events featuring the likes of Santigold and James Murphy, night 16 of the 17-day Transmission LA: AV Club interdisciplinary art festival at MOCA curated by Mike D had to go big. Perhaps that's why Diplo, everyone's favorite DJ/producer/BlackBerry spokesperson, was tapped to close out one of the undisputed coolest L.A. cultural happenings to go down in recent history with one of his signature panty-dropping DJ sets on Cinco de Mayo Saturday night. It was also just a day after the tragic news of the death of the event maestro's fellow Beastie Boy, MCA AKA Adam Yauch, so see how Diplo paid tribute to the rapper who taught us how to get ill. It's impossible, try as we might, not to view Mike D's amazing Transmission L.A. audio/visual art festival at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA through the prism of last week's tragic loss of Beastie Boy Adam "MCA" Yauch. But, while it's not our place to presume to know MCA's thoughts, we're pretty sure he would have been happy that even as the world was mourning his loss, Transmission was continuing to thrill music-loving audiences with big-name performances like Thursday's show from British garage pioneer DJ Harvey and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy. Last night, the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA kicked off Transmission L.A., a 17-day audio/visual arts festival curated by Beastie Boy and cultural icon Michael "Mike D" Diamond. While the event was packed beyond capacity almost immediately, those lucky (or early) enough to get in were treated to a full-spectrum sensory overload of immersive audio/visual art installations, food, live music, and style. We hit up Instagram to collect the best snapshots from this crazy party and give you a little taste of what the next 16 days will have in store. More»

So all your friends went off to Sundance to party with movie stars and alcoholic babies, and you're still here in L.A.? Maybe you're a little jealous, because it seems like every night they're checking out some big name like Drake, playing for free? Don't sweat it, because there's actually a lot of great live music happening right here in town this week, including plenty of artists that give ol' Wiz Khalifa a run for his money. So instead of sitting at home feeling left out, Go See A Show!! [L.A. punk legends X play the MOCA on Friday, photo via] More»
[Erwin Redl installation via] We are now heading toward the middle of August, which means art world vacation is almost over, but not quite. However, if you are like me, you are getting restless of lack of new things to see/do/absorb. Luckily I scoured the town and came up with some good stuff for you this week. See ya around town. More»
[Photo by Billy Budd via] It's been a while, and well... I know I’ve been gone. It isn't because I didn't want to be here, it's because I was frankly so busy (new job, new place, initiating cohabitation, smidge of food poisoning) I was barely a shadow, and shadows can't type or look at art or stuff... or something. What I'm trying to say, is I missed you guys and I missed sharing with you all the awesome art offerings our lovely city has to offer you. So if you will, have me back, I would like to present you with the following: More»
[Photo via] Happy extra gloomy Monday, everyone. How are we on this bleakest of mornings? If you're doing the sad Charlie Brown walk, here's at least one reason to be glad it's Monday: you can go see a bunch of sweet graffiti in MOCA's "Art In The Streets" exhibition for free, thanks to the ever elusive Banksy. So you've been meaning to make it over to MOCA to see the comprehensive street art exhibition. "Art In The Streets," but once again, you blew your weekly "cultural activities" budget on Jagermeister. Don't worry, we're not here to lecture you, but rather to tell you that Banksy himself has your back: for the rest of the summer, as long as you can make it on a Monday, admission is on him. More»
