As a recent study by the Los Angeles Times revealed, Oscar voters are mostly old, white men who probably vote for movies like The Artist because they can still remember the age of silent film.  As a result, there's a disconnect between what The Academy considers a "Best Picture" and the opinion of the general public, which tends toward funnier and sexier fare (see: Ryan Gosling).  Here's a list of films that got shafted. While some of us spent Sunday night ordering Thai food and trying to scrape up 10 bucks for our betting pool (ahem), other, more socially-inclined Oscar viewers gathered at 1OAK for Moet & Chandon's Private Oscar Viewing Party.
