It was a "Rock 'N Roll High School" Reunion at Clic Gallery, where a crowd of art and music enthusiasts turned out for last night's Opening Reception of "BYE BYE CBGB," an exhibition by Parisian artist Bruno Hadjadj, who recorded the famed club's closing in 2006.  The gallery showcased sketches, black-and-white photography, and silver prints mounted on lights, illuminating the past glory of CBGB, where artists such as The Ramones, Blondie, and The Talking Heads got their starts. I've been doing roundups of all the wonderful things I learned as a native Angeleno during a recent trip to NYC but felt this particular adventure to the basement of the former CBGB should stand alone. What I learned is even though the legendary mother of punk rock was taken over by John Varvatos, you can still party in its basement. But there is one little caveat: it's not open to the public. Although every other movie and TV show seems to be set in New York, many of these representations of the city are filmed on Hollywood backlots 3,000 miles away from a decent slice of pizza.
