One of the best parts of watching Mad Men (besides the expertly crafted plot and character development) is the perfectly recreated world of 1960s New York. Who doesn’t wish they could simply step into their tvs for a moment and experience the romance of sipping a cocktail in an elegant 60s bar? We’ve put together a list of Mad Men inspired locales, consisting of places that have been here since the 1960s as well as their modern counterparts. Here’s everything you need to know to dress, drink, eat, and live like a character out of Mad Men. (Don Draper not included.) More»

In a blink it seems like Fashion Week came and went, but yesterday’s conclusion included some highlights to close things out with a bang. Among them the always star-packed Calvin Klein show. More»
[All photos by NEIL RASMUS and JOE SCHILDHORN for PMc]. The super hot Boom Boom Room at the Standard Hotel hosted the fifth anniversary party for the NYT’s T Magazine, last night, continuing it’s consistent star-filled status. While we were chatting with society photog Patrick McMullan, he made the bold statement that the Boom Boom Room in the Standard Hotel was the biggest opening since Studio 54. After considering it, he might be right (the man’s definitely an authority, having been to both). Just sitting in Andre Balazs’s new spot, you can feel the scene. There’s a certain energy in the air. That got us thinking, what really would make a new Studio 54? Since we love spending time during one of the busiest weeks of our year thoughtlessly pondering, here’s what we came up with… More»
[All photos by NEIL RASMUS and PATRICK McMULLAN for PMc]. Patrick McMullan called it the biggest opening since Studio 54, and no wonder: Madonna, Courtney Love, Jude Law, Jon Bon Jovi, Lindsay Lohan, Calvin Klein and Rachel Zoe are just a few…a few!…of the big names from the music, fashion, and entertainment industries that gathered at the Standard Hotel Saturday night for the much anticipated opening of the Boom Boom Room. So which coast has the edge on pool parties? The West coast gets spoiled with summer weather all year, so you’d think they have the genre down. On the other hand, the East coast really packs everything it can into the season of sun. Brief, but aggressive. After a Jay-Z appearance and shows from bands including Girl Talk, we’d say Brooklyn’s JELLY properly represents our hood. There’s the celeb factor, amazing music, hipster summer fashions, and the city skyline. More»

UPDATE: We have just received word that The Standard Hotel, NYC will indeed be getting a pool in the near future! HOORAY!
You see the vending machine behind that cute little blond girl? It’s the new Standard Hotel boardshorst/bikini machine (the first-ever) with Quiksilver, and it debuted in L.A. this month. We heard about these vending machines awhile ago, and wondered if they were the key to saving a district (Meatpacking) that was on the verge of extinction. There’s just one problem. The Standard L.A. actually has a pool, the Standard, NYC does not. Minor detail right? Check out the board shorts in action at the Standard in L.A.’s pool and stay tuned for the NYC party. More photos as well as a video of the party below…. More»

Inglorious Basterds, the movie that is set to save Harvey Weinstein’s ass, premiered in NY last night, and the after party, at The Standard Hotel, drew guests like Quentin Tarantino, Harvey Weinstein, Diane Kruger, Lindsay Lohan, Michelle Monaghan, Lawrence Bender, Eli Roth, Christopher Meloni, and more. But is it enough to keep the Weinstein company afloat? That’s TBD… More»
Question Of The Day: Will The Standard’s New Boardshorts Be Enough To Keep The Meatpacking Afloat?
[The Standard Grill. Photo via HC] If the Jane Ballroom is saving NYC Nightlife (in the West Village at least), what is The Standard doing for Meatpacking? André Balazs’ Standard Hotel was the city’s most anticipated opening of the year. Declared the Municipal Art Society’s Best New Building of 2009, and sitting on valuable real estate at the edge of the Highline, everyone was excited to start throwing their parties, and their pants off, at the newest hot spot. The opening of the hotel’s restaurant, The Standard Grill, caused even more excitement, as things like this tend to do. Beyonce and Jay-Z, Anna Wintour, Rick Owens; these were just some of the faces spotted in the first weeks of the restaurant. Bruce Willis was doing a porny photoshot for W Magazine in the hotel before the beds were even installed. More»

New York celebrated gay pride yesterday with the parade during the day and parties all over the city during the evening. I played co-host to probably the only party where the guests kept their shirts on. The party was called Pride and was presented by Mr. Patrick Duffy, along with media sponsor Interview Magazine and liquor sponsor Belvedere vodka. More»
