A good idea, a lot of hard work, and the right attitude can go an incredibly long way, which is how online vintage retailer Nasty Gal went from a one-person eBay venture to an insanely fast-growing international business with hundreds of thousands of customers in just six years. Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso celebrated the site's recent redesign, launch of the Nasty Gal blog, and general success with a Sky Ferreira-hosted, Breakbot DJ'ed blowout at the Roosevelt's Tropicana Bar last night. Back in the beginning of March, The Virgins performed an intimate set at Le Baron for part three of Absolut's Encore! series. The crowd packed into the small space to see the return of the New York-based band, with their new track "Prima Materia." Ryan McGinley, who is credited for introducing the band to each other back in 2004, filmed the entire show with five different cameras stationed around the dark room. More»

Who said you can't party on a Monday? Last night The Virgins performed at Le Baron as part three of the Encore! Live Session series at the venue presented by Absolut. The middle section of the three story club was transformed into a small make shift stage where party goers normally dance. Guests, including Simonez Wolf, Aurel Schmidt, Bill Powers, Ryan McGinley, packed into the small space, standing on steps and chairs to get a glimpse of the intimate set played by the band. Cory Kennedy shot some photos for the Spring 2009 look book of Chrissie Miller's line "Sophomore" at the new LOLA/Gin Lane Media office this week. Also shot were Jen Brill and Donald Cumming from The Virgins, by Cass Bird. Cory Kennedy, the real internet "IT" girl has taken the world by storm, it was only a matter of time until LOLA got their hands on this fresh talent. I myself can not wait to check out LOLA's new digs.

I, along with everyone else I know, am obsessing over The Virgins. I loved it when I see them turn up on friend's facebook pages, and can not wait to see them live. Listen to their new album HERE, and for my mutually agree upon favorite video by the band go HERE. They just completed a show at the ever popular All Points West concert last weekend, and will be at the Santos party on August 27th in NYC.
All Points West Music & Arts Festival starts today over at Liberty Square Park. I am so bummed that I'm missing out on this concert and jealous of Ben Kaufman, who will be there front and center enjoying bands like:
Friday: Radiohead, Underworld, The New Pornographers, Michael Franti & Spearhead, The Go! Team, Girl Talk, CSS, Duffy, Forro in the Dark, Little Brother, Andrew Bird Grizzly Bear, Mates of State , The Duke Spirit, Lowry
Saturday:Radiohead, Kings of Leon, Animal Collective, Metric, Chromeo, The Roots, The Black Angels, The Virgins, The Felice Brothers, Alberta Cross, Sia, K'NAAN, Nicole Atkins, Your Vegas
Sunday, May 19
We sat down with Anne Pasternak for a few questions about Creative Time's past and future, as well as the importance of having an awareness about public art in the city.
