W Hotels Global Fashion Director Jenné Lombardo kicked off fashion week last night with Fashion Next at Lilium at the W Union Square. Fashion Next, which features up-and-coming designers, is currently in its fourth season. The 2012 designers included Bibhu Mohapatra, Nomia, and Rochabeau, who also participated in the event last year, as well as newcomers Haus Alkire and Suzanne Rae. W’s Director of Cocktail Culture Joseph Boroski created fashion-themed cocktails including the “Breath Mint,” a rum, mint leaves, and lime drink that was served in a small spray bottle for guests to spritz directly into their mouths.

Brooklyn-based DJ and Hercules and Love Affair frontman Andrew Butler started his career at 15 in a Denver leather bar whose hostess went by Chocolate Thunder Pussy. Tonight, he graduates to decidedly glossier digs at Lexington Avenue's W Hotel. No word yet on whether hotel staffers will come with their own raunchy nicknames, but you can find out for free at 8pm. Last night, in the Presidential Suite at the W Hotel in Times Square, Fern Mallis, Vice President of IMG, a force behind Fashion Week, and now a face of Bravo's THE FASHION SHOW, held a private viewing party for family, friends, colleagues, and... us. The newly renovated suite was privy to no more than 25 or so fashion insiders, celebrating THE FASHION WEEK's arrival to television last night with champagne and companionship, thanks to Fern Mallis herself.
