Tony Awards

As you know, I've been doing a little armchair activism lately for gay-straight friendships. It is in this capacity that I'd like to inform you all that something called The Tony Awards happened Sunday night. Apparently, the Tonys are—get this—an entire awards show for live theatre! I know, right? But I guess people go to it, and that means people dress up for it. More»

So how awesome were the Tony Awards?! What? Not that awesome? Oh, come on! Dancing ogres! 80s Hair Bands! Bret Michaels knocked out by a piece of scenery! NEIL PATRICK HARRIS! Despite contraversial cuts and unnecessary performances by shows that weren't up for any awards (Mamma Mia has been running for ten years...WE GET IT), the Tony's this year still had their share of star-making moments, especially with Alice Ripley and Karen Olivo taking home much-deserved statuettes. Ye Waverly InnWe began our night feeding my ongoing musical obsession at the City Center Encore's production of Damn Yankees. The last City Center Production we went to was last summer's Gypsy with Patti Lupone. As you may know, the production transferred to Broadway and garnered Tony Awards this year for not only Patti Lupone but also for her co-stars Boyd Gaines and Laura Benanti. So we had very high hopes for this production and we weren't disappointed.

Scott has a theory that it must be in Cheyenne's contract that he be shirtless in every show that he appears, much like his theory that Sarah Jessica Parker's contract states that she be referred to as beautiful at least a half dozen times in any screenplay.

Mary Louise Parker Backstage at the Tony AwardsThank God. Weeds is back on Showtime and I finally have some good television to watch again. When I heard Regina Spektor's "Little Boxes" song come on, all of my hectic Monday troubles started to melt away. I am so excited to see what Nancy Botwin has up her sleeves this season, and, judging from the season premiere, I am going to have more than my fill of hysterical scenes inside the life of a suburban drug dealer.
