Nostalgia for the glamour women of decades past is a reliable go-to for fashion inspiration, and Babe Paley is one of those retro socialites who sometimes goes under-the-radar, largely because of the subtlety of her style and her quiet class. When she does get the recognition she deserves, though, she's wildly lauded as one of the most graceful and stunning beauties that ever lived. More»

Elaine's, the legendary Upper East Side literary saloon, has been dealt a blow: as the New York Post reports, Elaine Kaufman, the joint's owner, died this afternoon. The occasion marks a worthy glance at the history of the establishment... More»

We have been watching, with growing concern, the recent developments at The Plaza Hotel. This storied New York monument has served as the setting for The Great Gatsby, North by Northwest, and, perhaps most importantly, Home Alone 2. And with recent news that The Situation will be opening a gym there, we're a little afraid our favorite New York landmark is going to the dogs... More»

It might not have the cachet of Andy Warhol's Upper East Side townhouse, but the real estate listing for Beat poet Allen Ginsberg's former apartment does note the residence's literary history, even if it doesn't inflate the relatively modest price tag. More»

Proving that real estate with an artsy pedigree can fetch eye-popping prices no matter the borough it's in, Truman Capote's not-so-humble Brooklyn Heights house has been listed at $18 million. That's more than $1.5 million per fireplace! More»

The joke goes that anyone who went to Studio 54 and remembers it didn't really experience it at all. Luckily, the information superhighway is here to remind us. And since the ur-disco opened 33 years ago tonight, there's no better time to take a fuzzy look back. More»

The Spring Ball for Save Venice may have been a little dressy for Stanley’s taste, but Truman Capote would have loved it. He might have noticed a shift in style though. Rather than the uptown traditional sit down dinner, this gala, held at the Bowery Hotel, offered only drinks, dessert and dancing. Luigi Tadini noted that he hoped the change in arrangements would make the event “a bit more open and free.” [Save Venice Write Up #1]

From: hamptons.guestofaguest.com:

Hampton Style has an excellent article about the house of long-time Hamptons character Truman Capote (whose Breakfast at Tiffany's inspired our sister site's original nom de blog). Like so many of us who spend time out East, he loved his time there, because it was

"... a retreat... it was not Manhattan. ... it was so much quieter. You could hear the ocean..."

Since those days, the Hamptons has become...well not so quiet.  What would Truman think of the Hamptons today?

So many Lovely Leos celebrating their Birthdays this August...We were particularly impressed with the party put on by our friends Max Bonbrest and Erin Bixler (both Leo's with birthdays a few days apart) in Max's lovely backyard out east. Erin, an up and coming interior designer, used cinder blocks to elevate large pieces of plywood which provide the perfect table tops adorned with freshly cut peonies. The menu, compliments of resident chef Nick Richitt and grill-master Brian McGinnis, consisted of pesto pasta, grilled chicken, burgers and corn as well as homemade potato chips and parmesan truffle french fries! For dessert, mini ice cream sandwiches and watermelon were served.
