The Official Selection of the 2009 Toronto Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, and 2010 Sundance Film Festival, I AM LOVE premiered in New York City last night. Luca Guadagnino's Italian film follows the fall of the haute bourgeoisie in Milan and stars Tilda Swinton as Emma Recchi. For those of us whose adolescence involved fruitless hours trying to figure out what the heck Rory and Lorelai were talking about on Gilmore Girls, Alexis Bledel was spotted at the premiere at SVA Theater.

As might be expected, the celebrities are mostly either still in Venice for the Film Festival (George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton) or New York for Fashion Week (Lindsay Lohan, everyone at the Paper Mag party last night). Kelly Osbourne, however, made friends with construction workers in London, and James Taylor, Jennifer Hudson, and The Black Eyed Peas headed out to Chicago to help Oprah kick off her 24th season. Some of Hollywood's finest actors including Tilda Swinton, Matt Damon, Ewan McGregor, and George Clooney, ventured to Venice for the 66th International Venice Film Festival from September 2 through 12.  This year only five of the 23 films entered are American, including Michael Moore's new documentary "Capitalism: A Love Story."  The jury for the festival headed by Oscar-winning director Ang Lee will decide a winner on the 12th.  Last year, "The Wrestler" starring Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei won the festival.

The main difference between the Venice Film Festival and, say, Cannes or Sundance? Instead of arriving by limousine, celebrities arrive to their premieres in Gondolas. Besides that, it's just another star-studded film festival with killer fashion and insane parties every night. Eva Mendes, Nicholas Cage (look at the picture at left: don't they look so bummed to be there?) and Viggo Moretensen are just a few of the celebrities forced to spend a week of their life promoting movies in one of the most beautiful cities on earth. Salman Rushdie took some time out of his busy schedule of being one of the most famous writers in the world to attend the premiere of "Francesca", along with a date.

Today officially marks the first day of the 66th annual Venice Film Festival - the oldest film festival in the world - and what better way to celebrate than with pictures of Maria Grazia Cucinotta sitting on a giant horizontal mirror!  The actress/writer/model is set to host the festival until its completion on September 12th and has undoubtedly been working on her tan in anticipation.  More story and photos below...
