On Saturday, President Obama joined throngs of day-drinking Washingtonians for a beer at The Dubliner, an Irish pub located at 520 North Capital Street. He drank a pint of Guinness. Henry Healy was among the drinkers at the pub, and he happens to be Irish and Obama's 8th cousin. More»
That's Layman, not Lehman.
We know our readers that have been holed up on Capitol Hill will skip this entry, but for our readers that have been acting like they know what's going on--you're welcome:
The U.S. Debt Ceiling is set at $14.294 trillion, which is the amount of debt the United States is allowed to carry to pay off bills. This is basically our country's credit card limit--except instead of credit cards, we issue bonds to citizens and institutions. We also borrow money from other countries, like China. China owns about one trillion dollars of our debt. How nice of them to spot us.
We officially hit this ceiling in May. As written by the Wall Street Journal, the Treasury has been using "stopgap measures" to keep paying bills, but will be totally out of money on August 2, although some analysts say we might be able to last until August 10. Ouch.

Celebrities gathered Monday night to support the Creative Coalition, a non-profit political advocacy group, at a private dinner hosted by Moet & Chandon and 10 Cane Rum at Washington D.C.'s Teatro Goldoni restaurant. Guests including Senator John Kerry, Coalition founder Susan Sarandon, Marisa Tomei, Star Jones, Alan Cumming, Billy Baldwin, Kim Raver, Spike Lee with wife Tonya Lewis, among many others made it past the crowd of 2 million to sip customized bottles of "Obama Is The Man" bubbly. The Creative Coalition are quite the partiers this week as they prepare to host an Inaugural Ball this evening for our new Pres.

"Wow what a crowd!...how do we get a beer around here."-Stephanie Wei
I'm currently in Seattle, Washington (more specifically, Bellevue, which is right outside the city) visiting my parents. I grew up and lived in Bellevue until I fled east to Yale for college and subsequently moved to NYC upon graduating. Basically, I haven't been around much for the past seven years.
I'd almost forgotten how great Seattle is in the months of July and August. However, I do always argue that there's nowhere else better to be in the continental U.S. during July and August than Seattle. I stand by that statement, particularly after this current trip. I also believe that Seattle may be the country's best kept secret...but I digress.
