"Wow what a crowd!...how do we get a beer around here."-Stephanie Wei

I'm currently in Seattle, Washington (more specifically, Bellevue, which is right outside the city) visiting my parents. I grew up and lived in Bellevue until I fled east to Yale for college and subsequently moved to NYC upon graduating. Basically, I haven't been around much for the past seven years.

I'd almost forgotten how great Seattle is in the months of July and August. However, I do always argue that there's nowhere else better to be in the continental U.S. during July and August than Seattle. I stand by that statement, particularly after this current trip. I also believe that Seattle may be the country's best kept secret...but I digress.

Lukasz ZbylutIn this day and age, it's often a thrilling surprise for even the most brilliant high school students to receive a fat envelope (a.k.a. acceptance letter) from their top choice college. But this year, New Utrecht High School valedictorian Lukasz Zbylut received one not only from his top choice (Harvard), but from 17 other prestigious colleges. The schools that accepted Zbylut include Ivies Yale, Dartmouth, and Columbia--in spite their falling acceptance rates over the past few years. It's probably not surprising that Zbylut lead the model U.N., the debate team, the school newspaper and various other organizations during his four years at New Utrecht. And while it may be easy to make fun of Zbylut for being, um, a nerd, we all know that he's going to save the world someday.

Bring your Gucci loafers, Nantucket Reds, and a little lock-jaw to the Ivycup Polo match next Saturday at the Greenwich Polo Club. Apparently there is going to be a playoff between the alumni teams of Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Cornell. How many people are actually graduates and how many simply imposters, it's hard to say. But it's for a good cause (Charity Network of New York City to help disadvantaged youth...a nice gesture by the advantaged) so we can all tip a mallet to that.
