The British Version Of “Gossip Girl”
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. We stole “The Office” from the British, and now, it seems they would like a piece of the Gossip Girl success. Introducing SKINS on BBC America. Already been compared to as the “Racy and revealing Brit-styled Gossip Girl”, SKINS follows just your average group of 17-year olds from Bristols. Go here to learn all about this show, and catch it on Sunday nights (10/9c) on BBC. As for whether it will live up to GG fame? Those are some HARD SHOES to fill.

I think you have it backward. Skins came on the air a year before Gossip Girl.
Skins premiered in the UK on January 25, 2007.

Gossip Girl premiered on September 19, 2007.

So Gossip Girl probably ripped off Skins, since by the time Skins finished its first season, Gossip Girl had yet to film its first episode.
SKINS actually came out for a brief period in 07 but was canceled because apparently the material was too racy for BBC. It is back up premiering last sunday night.
Skins *NEVER* aired on the BBC.
Nor was it ever canceled.
It was created by a British digital cable TV network called E4, and filmed throughout 2006. It first aired in January 2007.
You can read more about Skins at its Wikipedia page:

BBC America, which doesn’t just pick up UK shows on the BBC, decided to buy the rights to air Skins in the United States.
BBC America began showing Skins for the first time in the U.S. 8 days ago.
The second season ended this past spring, it aired on E4 in the UK. They’re shooting the third season now.
Nice job of researching this story. lol.
Skins was NEVER canceled. It never even aired on BBC until it was on BBC America. And it’s 400x better than Gossip Girl could ever hope to be.
“As for whether it will live up to GG fame? Those are some HARD SHOES to fill.”
Punny. Is that sarcasm? SKINS is 10x the show GG is. Some of the eps fall flat but at least it *tries* to get to something real about the human condition. GG is pure frippery.
I’m going to mention ep 2×02 because it’s so weird. I haven’t seen anything like that before on a teen show. Disturbing, but brilliant.
