If Giants Get a Parade, Say Some Vets, Why Not Us? [NYTimes]
Did you miss the Giant ticker tape parade today? Check out some photos from it here.
Not a Giants fan? No worries, the tradition of the ticker tape parade, is being used as inspiration for a new kind of parade: one for our troops:
“Everybody recognizes that the Giants deserve a parade,” said Paul Rieckhoff, founder and executive director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. But, he added, “If a football team gets a parade, shouldn’t our veterans?”
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, who has long expressed his regret that the United States did not do a better job honoring veterans of the Vietnam War in the 1970s, has cited advice from the Pentagon in deciding it was not appropriate to hold a parade while American soldiers are still fighting in Afghanistan.
For the record: I'm totally in support of ticker tape parades of any and all kind.

As a Viet Nam vet all I can say is get over it. Unless they allowed you to kill everyone then it is not considered a victory. This country celebrates winners. They are not too concerned about backlash from VN vets because over half of us are dead or dying. We are too small a group to protest, and most of us do not give a shit about a parade. I am sure they will apologize for not having the parade. When you really think about it do you really believe a parade is going to make a difference in anyones life?
