Gili Islands, Indonesia
The 3 archipelagos that make up Gili Islands are perfect for those who are seeking a remote experience and are not too bothered by the lack of modern day amenities. Admittedly, hip accommodations are starting to pop up around the islands, but its popularity amongst backpacker in the 80s and 90s has left a mark on the feel of the place. The nightlife continues to be dominated by small reggae bars and the occasional make-shift full moon party. It is also worth noting that there are no motorized vehicles on the island-- which means no noise pollution and lots of fresh air!
