DC Fashion Week highlights the work of 10 designers from Switzerland with a fashion show at Alex Gallery in Dupont Circle. This show is part of the exhibition “Swiss Style: Fashion & Jewelry Design,” a showcase of the best contemporary fashion and jewelry designs from the Geneva University of Art and Design -- one of Switzerland’s prestigious design centers. The country has earned a solid reputation for perfectly functioning and fresh design.
The show presentsa selection of pieces for men and womenranging from gowns to casual wear, footwear and necklaces. These inventions play with unique materials, illustrating techniques that mix know-how and new technologies. Many of the pieces were created for international designers, including coats and draped dresses for the Martin Grant fashion house in Paris, and “Walking Objects” for the Brazilian shoe brand Melissa.
Highlights of the evening will include eye-catching pale pink maryjanes with unusual duck shaped heels from Julie Simon. Pleated pastel colored dresses with a rugged edge from Magdalena Brodza will be shown from the collection “I put a spell on you.” Other highlights include Vanessa Schindler’s sharp wool blazer for Martin Grant, items from Camille Rebord’s Swiss Federal Design Award winning collection “Flowery Bones,” plus leather and foam jewelry from Hans Wilsdorf Foundation prize winner Dorothee Loustalot.
This show is part of the Alex Gallery’s commitment to promote international works of art, made possible in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland.
Complimentary wine will be served. This event is free and open to the public.
