Twitterific Tweets: The Power Outage Continues, As Does Its Aftermath

by NIKKI BOGOPOLSKAYA · July 27, 2010

The DC area is now approaching forty-eight hours of power outage, and although many residents are inconvenienced and angry, we tip our hats to these tweetings Macgyvers:

@romachan: Massive meaty cookout at our place to get rid of stuff from our fridge due to power outage. THE GRILL IS MY HERO! :D

@sosarahsays: Still no power. Playing board games, eating ice cream and drinking beer. (Aka: Operation save the valuables from the fridge!)

What better activity for a power outage than a binge eating and drinking session? Candlelight almost guaranteed unexpected romantic rendezvous. Or of course, you could always go to the other extreme:

@sosarahsays: Power outages are fun if you drink beer with your roommates, listen to Sandstorm and rave dance with flashlights in the living room

DIY dance party? Many kudos to you.

Of course, not all of us are seeing the “glass half full” side of the picture.  Tweeters are angry about spoiled food, hot apartments...

@sisarina: 40min to drive 3.5m... Should have just walked.

    awful traffic...

@gregpinelo:The thing that's ticking me off the most about yet another power outage? Missed #madmenpremier. PEPCO needs to get peppier.

    …missed television

@creekside_learn: What kind of a world is it when Dunkin Donuts DOESN'T HAVE ANY DONUTS? Due to power outage at place where donuts are made. Whatever.

    …snacking failures, and much more.

Perhaps this DC resident says it best:

@cldntran: Man this power outage took out errrythang #holyshiznats

Nonetheless, we recommend saving your wine and beer while its cold, grabbing your perishables, and heading out to your front porch/stoop/sidewalk to mix and mingle with the similarly ailing. Impromptu block parties always beat whining on the internet while your phone battery slowly dies.
