Native Washingtonian, Kendra McCullough, is on a mission to redefine and refurbish the District's fashion scene. Twenty-four years young and recent graduate of Marymount University's fashion design program, McCullough is now working on her third collection under her own name and label and we had to get a sneak peek. Her opulent, powerful, and unique designs have earned her the resumé she has today, which boasts an editorial in Vogue Italia! One would think that such a talented designer would want to relocate to one of the world's more notable "fashion capitals", but she is happiest here, and truly believes in the future of DC's fashion industry. With such a passion for fashion and our charming city, we had to sit down with her and catch a behind-the-scenes look at McCullough's Pre-Fall 2014 lookbook photo shoot while getting to know the budding designer. When life hands you lemons, make a whiskey sour! That's always been my personal spin on the old adage, but is it whiskey or whisky?! Being a fan of a stiff bourbon drink, I've recently realized that there are two spelling variations of the booze. Naturally, I inquired to Google and found that there is a heated cyber debate over the proper spelling, whiskey vs. whisky. From my research, it seems to break down to this: whisky, lacking the e, denotes a Scotch whisky, while whiskey denotes the Irish and American liquors. Since I'm not partial to either side of the debate, I consider myself a fan across the board and rounded up some of my favorite spots in DC to partake in a little whisk(e)y business.

Karen Walker has never been one to shy away from questioning the status quo. With her bold, oversized eyewear, the New Zealand designer has featured everyone from toddlers to senior citizens in her campaigns so, while her choice to forgo a Gisele Bundchen look-a-like in her new Spring 2014 campaign is not all that surprising, the story behind her choice to turn the camera on to the Kenyan artisans who contributed to her line is inspiring. The styles aren't futuristic in that way that is often difficult to conceive of upon first viewing runway shows and grasping their concepts. While the ideas may seem rather simple - almost recycled - it's refreshing to have elements of the not-so-distant past invited back to once again become the definition of modern. As the temperatures dip below freezing, our nights cuddling on the couch in our pajamas with a bottle glass of wine increase exponentially. Navigating through the frigid air is basically last on our of list of things we want to do but the social butterfly in us gets restless!
