Playland Motel
Why: One of the most unique hotels of the year is the Playland Motel. You'll have to make the trek out to Rockaway Beach (conveniently right off the A train), but you'll be rewarded with a vibrant experience geared towards young people who know hotels are more for partying than sleeping. 12 artists from Brooklyn including Simon Spurr and Athena Calderone were commissioned to design the 12 rooms, leaving no 2 rooms alike. There's also wood fired pizza from Rosarito and music (which goes until 4a.m) curated by DFA's Liv Spencer. If the Playland Motel is your first experience with Rockaway Beach, it's bound to be a good one.
