Doma Na Rohu
What better way to experience the Austro-Hungarian empire in New York then going to the place that offers a pig roast on the fourth Thursday of every month? At Doma Na Rohu, a pig roasted all day in beer, served with red cabbage, mashed potatoes and apple compote. And all the while during dinner polka is playing. The "Old World" pig roast is a prix fix menu that comes with a .5 liter of beer or glass of wine, plus dessert for $30. If you happen to miss the roast, Monday through Saturday there are weekly Eastern European specials, from Hungarian fish soup to roast chicken to pork loins with red cabbage. Doma Na Rohu's chef uses his grandmother's Hungarian recipes, and the owner bases the drinks on his hometown Czech Republic, making it one of the best places to transport yourself to old Europe without getting on a plane.
