Gagosian Gallery's Spot Challenge For The 1%

by Yumi Matsuo · January 12, 2012

The Gagosian Gallery's Spot Challenge is like The Amazing Race meets Willy Wonka's golden ticket...for millionaires. The challenge is to see all of Damien Hirst's Spot paintings being shown at the Gagosian galleries around the world. The around-the-world race ends with a signed spot print dedicated personally to you by Damien Hirst.

    To the NYTimes, Hirst responded,

"I figured it would be pretty difficult to visit all the galleries, and totally admirable if anyone managed it, so admirable in fact that I thought they would deserve a work of art, so we came up with the idea to do the challenge."

There are two galleries in London, three in New York, one in Paris, Rome, Hong Kong, Athens, Geneva and Beverly Hills, California.

No other artist has challenge his/her enthusiasts in such a way.

    Spot Challenge Rules:

    1) The challenge is from January 6 - February 10, 2012

    2) Register HERE with valid email and mailing address

    3) Retrieve registration card at any Gagosian Gallery with government issued photo ID

    4) Get card stamped by the designated gallery official at each location

The size of the edition will depend on the number of winners. Spot prints rage anywhere from $3,500 to $50,000 based on the date, composition and edition.

So for the 1% out there who are looking to take on this challenge and win a free spot print that is probably of equal value to your plane tickets, time's ticking!
