Tower

Given its screening location, the documentary feature Tower was especially poignant at SXSW, as it recalled the events of August 1, 1966, when a sniper terrorized pedestrians at the University of Texas at Austin. Winning top honors from both the jury and audiences at the festival, Tower provides an emotional framework for the infamous incident, using archival footage, animation, and incredibly moving interviews with survivors and witnesses. The film does a sufficient and respectful job of recreating the shock of that day, at a time when mass shootings at schools weren't (unfortunately) as commonplace as they are now.
