Party in the hutongs

Party in the hutongs
The not-so-luxe villages of narrow streets and allies depicting every day life that so often appear in period Chinese films are known as ‘hutongs.’ Having originated in Beijing, many of these little villages are still in existent in the middle of the city despite rapid modernization. Only now, these hutongs serve as a hub for bars, art galleries, and shops. If you’re ready for a time warp, head to the following hutongs for a bar crawl: Banchang Hutong, Zhangwang Hutong, Wudaoying Hutong, and Fangjia Hutong. [Photo via]
