Sevigny's role in
Disco attracted the attention of director Kimberly Pierce, who cast her as a lead in
Boys Don't Cry (1999). Her critically-acclaimed performance as Lana Tisdel, the romantic love interest of Brandon Teena (Hilary Swank), garnered Sevigny numerous accolades, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
The role marked a major turning point in her career -- although Sevigny would continue to star in a number of independent films, among them
