Born in 1948 as LaDonna Adrian Gaines, Donna Summer adopted "Summer" as her stage name after marrying Austrian actor Helmuth Sommer in 1973. The couple divorced in 1975, and Summer remarried, this time to Brooklyn Dreams member Bruce Sudano. In addition to her daughter Mimi, whom she had with Sommer, she also has two daughters, Brooklyn and Amanda, with Sudano.
Though Summer had been sick with cancer for a few years, she was in the recording studio as recently as 2011, when she recorded a track for a new fragrance being released by Diesel.
