Released on July 15, 2012, Gangnam Style debuted at #1 on South Korea's Gaon Chart. By September, Gangnam Style had over 210 million hits on YouTube, making it the top viewed K-Pop video on YouTube.
The video quickly garnered international attention, and Gangnam Style has since been featured in The Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, CNN, The Today Show, and various others.
"Gangnam Style" refers to the luxurious lifestyle led by residents of the Gangnam district of Seoul. Gangnam is by far Seoul's wealthiest neighborhood, and in an interview with CNN, Psy compared the area to Beverly Hills.
After the success of Gangnam Style, Psy signed a contract with Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun.
