A discussion of Lana Del Rey, at this point, is really a discussion of the dangers of a marketing machine kicking into full gear before the songwriting machine does the same, or at least the dangers of high expectations in general. Because the truth is, nobody's really sure what Lana Del Rey is all about yet. A 25-year old singer from New York, Lana landed a record contract with Interscope off the strength of an independently produced LP that's more or less an extended demo titled
Lana Del Rey but released under her real name, Lizzy Grant. The album has since been pulled from retail sale by Interscope, although tracks can be found
on YouTube and other sources.
