5. Rei Kawakubo, designer for Commes des Garcons, is being awarded with the CFDA lifetime achievement award tonight. Kawakubo wont be able to make it to New York, but filmmaker and friend,
John Waters, will stand in at the ceremony and accept the CFDA award on Kawakubo's behalf.
Although she is being honored for lifetime achievements, Rei Kawakubo admits that her creative process has yet to find a finish line as the designer is inspired daily. "My design process never starts or finishes. I am always hoping to find something through the mere act of living my daily life."
Other designers being nominated tonight include
Pamela Love,
Tabitha Simmons, and
Irene Neuwirth.
