Reading on holiday is like dieting. You plan to do the utmost (say, cut out sugar entirely/read Infinite Jest), but aiming too high means you end up breaking promises to yourself. Instead of setting overlofty goals why not recognize your own inadequacies? Do the reading equivalent of committing to a single dessert per evening - take a designated beach read on vacation. A beach read doesn't have to be total garbage, but it shouldn't feel like homework. It should be short, fast-paced, and engaging. And, of course, something you wouldn't mind posting in a flat lay.
