Where: Southampton Animal Shelter Who was there: Celebrity dog trainer Bill Grimmer, Southampton Animal Shelter President Jonathan McCann, Elizabeth Saifiroff, Jean Sharifoff Other details: Famed Dog Trainer, Bill Grimmer visited the Southampton Animal Shelter this past weekend and met with the trainers and volunteers to teach them how to make the dogs in the shelter more adoptable. Grimmer, who has worked with everyone from the Canadian government and police force, to Mother Teresa, the Vanderbilts and the Hearsts, utilizes specific techniques with scent, touch and food to train dogs that have proven successful throughout the United States as well as in Canada, South America, and the Caribbean. “In teaching these dogs to be more social and in control, they become adoptable in a shorter time frame. This results in less time spent in the shelter,” says Grimmer. “Then once they are adopted, they will also be more manageable for the families that take them in.” [Bill Grimmer]
