Montauk's Ditch Witch Was Broken Into This Week!

by Christie Grimm · August 6, 2020

It seems that The Hamptons has never been more crowded, but apparently safety doesn't necessarily come with numbers.

Tuesday evening of this week, Montauk mainstay and local beach food favorite The Ditch Witch was broken into, the first time the business has dealt with any sort of burglary in its 26 years of operating. Besides leaving behind quite the mess, breaking their plexiglass barriers and destroying their cash register, the thief made off with every 2 dollar bill the food truck has ever received. A potentially helpful tip in identifying a suspect.

Please contact the East Hampton Police Department if you have any leads on the case.

We should be open open right now. Instead we are cleaning and resetting up our business. We have been here 26 years and nothing of this nature has ever happened. We were broken into, our plexiglass barriers were smashed, our cash register broken open and destroyed. The lack of respect in Montauk right now for local business owners is ridiculous... we are all dealing with running businesses safely due to Covid-19 but now we have to deal with this nonsense. Hopefully the EHPD finds you before we do, would love to have some local justice on this one. Huge thank you to EHPD detectives for coming down and taking all the evidence to be analyzed. Hopefully we can find who did this. If you have any word please contact us or EHPD. The one thing stolen from us that is somewhat recognizable is every 2 dollar bill we have ever received in 26 years. So if someone pays at your business in all 2’s let us know!!! #localbusiness #montauknatives
