Agnès Varda in Californialand
For six decades, Agnès Varda has been making narrative and documentary films exploring social issues and now has a "film house" on display in her
Agnès Varda in Californialand exhibit at LACMA made of real film strips. The footage used to create it as well as printed photographs displayed on the walls was all shot during the French artist's time in Los Angeles and other parts of California in the late 1960s. The sculptural installation presents a new way to display film itself as an art form and contextualize it within a museum, while bringing awareness to restore four films made by Agnès Varda:
Uncle Yanco (1967),
Black Panthers (1968),
LIONS LOVE (...AND LIES) (1969), and
