As a giant man-made island initially conceived as an airport to service San Francisco, Treasure Island found its calling as a scenic, accessible fairgrounds, first hosting such events as the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. The Treasure Island Music Festival has been kicking since 2007, where the headliners included Modest Mouse, Spoon, and DJ Shadow.
