The Secret Handshake: NIGHT AND DAY - Out Now
Talk about an album title that truly signposts a major sea change. For the past several years, Luis Dubuc (a.k.a. The Secret Handshake) has penned and recorded scores of songs by himself. His signature electronic-pop sound landed him the sort of success many in the indie circuit could only wish for
A Cursive Memory: Ambitious at a young age, the Southern California-based outfit A Cursive Memory had already managed to secure MTV airplay when most bands their age were stuck trying to come up with an original name. The pop/rock group -- which combines piano leads, rousing choruses, '80s-influenced keyboards, and sunny melodies -- took influence from a wide range of sources, including bands like the Killers, the All-American Rejects, and the Beach Boys. Colin Baylen (guitar, vocals) and Shaun Profeta guitars, vocals) first met at a birthday party in eight grade, becoming fast friends and casually writing songs together. Friend Brian Boylen next came into the mix, and the trio began jamming after school before adding Mark Borst-Smith, a classically-trained pianist and budding bassist, to the lineup.
The Narrative: New York based indie pop/rock group The Narrative is a perfect example of how sometimes things just seem to fall into place When guitarist/vocalist Jesse Gabriel posted a three page long Craigslist ad defining exactly what he wanted out of a musical relationship, there was no way he could have predicted that the most promising response would be from someone he grew up practically around the corner from but never knew.
Speak: Frontman Troupe Gammage has been recording music since age 11. Mesmerized by the compositions in his favorite video games, he started creating his own using rudimentary computer software. Developing his sound through his study of electronic music and observation of his musician parents (Ernie Gammage and Christine Albert) and the Motown collection at home, Troupe released his first EP at age 16. He went on to release two more albums online garnering over 25,000 downloads to date. Gammage spent a year in University of Southern California’s music composition program before moving to Austin to pursue video game composition and voice acting.
