Slide #6

tUnE-yArDs
About six months ago, we saw tUnE-yArDs for the first time, in the intimate confines of L.A.'s best small venue, the Troubadour, and although we were far from the first people to notice, we were struck by the infectious, ecstatic creativity of Merrill Garbus, who uses just a few sampling and drum machine toys, a ukelele, a bass and a saxophone (with the help of a few trusted friends) to create live music that's completely organic but also far more organized than it might initially seem. Bottom line, seeing Garbus live is an experience, and seeing what she can do out in the desert in front of a massive audience that's had ample time to digest and enjoy her excellent w h o k i l l album is a compelling proposition.
