Boise Thomas, Danielle Heijligers Every year, A+D Architecture and Design Museum hosts its 'Celebrate' gala, a fundraising event hosted at the museum that brings together design leaders and creative thinkers from around the world. This year's gala fell on Saturday, with "The Journey," the artistic process of creative design, as the theme. As guests of 'Celebrate: The Journey' filled A+D on L.A.'s museum row, they were treated DJ tunes from Raul Campos of KCRW on the turntables, performance art from Tiffany Trenda, international cuisine, and free-flowing drinks. The night's highlight came courtesy of the journey-themed runway show that consisted of "Mad Men"-esque flight stewardesses and pilots modeling an array of one-of-a-kind carry-ons dreamt up and designed by noted architects and designers. From suitcases and satchels to vintage train cases and futuristic jet-packs, each of these unique travel carryalls went up for sale to guests in an auction with actor and TV host Boise Thomas as the emcee. In addition to the runway show, guests were able to get in on a silent auction of similar goods by hundreds of design practitioners, including Karim Rashid, Steven Ehrlich, Gensler, Kathryn Ireland, Hodgetts + Fung, Koning Eizenberg, BMW DesignworksUSA and Febtress.
