Inside Opening Night Of L.A.'s Biggest Cat Art Show

Cat Art Show Los Angeles opened to a stylish crowd of artists, local tastemakers, art fans, and yes, 'cat people,' who stepped out for the opening reception on Saturday evening. Not only L.A.'s first cat-themed art show, but the largest of its kind ever exhibited, Cat Art features the works of over 60 artists inspired by the curious pet. Both a celebration and meditation on the feline form, the show explores cats' temperament and physicality, as well as their role as muse and theme throughout the history of art. Although there is certainly no shortage of 'cat people' amongst the lengthy list of artists represented, the show is more than just a collection of cat fan art. In fact, several of the artists whose works are included openly prefer dogs, and are even allergic to cats, but simply found the subject of the feline—its behavior, physical form, inspiration and relationship with humans—a compelling one to explore. Among the many artists represented are Tracey Emin, Tim Biskup, Gary Baseman, Shepard Fairey, Ray Caesar, Jill Greenberg, Charlotte Dumas, Martin Eder, Marc Dennis, FAILE, Mark Ryden, and more.
