6. Gourmet Cooking Classes
If your mother likes to cook or wishes she knew how, private cooking classes from top chefs will not only help strengthen her cooking skills, but also give her a fun afternoon experience in the kitchen she'll enjoy from start to finish (the part where you eat). Diane Mohilef, the chef behind former Melrose dining destination Citrus now offers top notch cooking experiences at her home with her "A Day In the Kitchen" classes. She teaches how to make an array of her dishes from appetizers to main courses using her original recipes in each class, followed by a lunch service for everyone at her sprawling Encino estate. Dana Slatkin is another local chef who offers classes where your mother can hone her gourmet skills. This month's class with Slatkin teaches students how to make delicious Italian food that's healthy and easy to prepare. Diane Mohilef $115/class, call 818 981 4748. Dana Slatin $125 for one class, $225 for two, visit DanaSlatkin.com. [photo via]
