Slide #9

Julia Roberts Stops The Music
The Academy's distaste for surprises extends even to the length and content of the speeches, but when you’re worth over $10 million per movie, nobody can tell you when you’re done talking. At least, that's true as long as you're also as beautiful as Julia Roberts, which she proved when she stopped the conductor from playing her off so she could finish her Best Actress acceptance speech during the 2001 Oscars. The Academy has since removed this type of power by installing a microphone that automatically retracts into the stage when the music starts playing. If that doesn't work, maybe they should go straight to powerful electric shocks. [Julia Roberts via]
