The film tells the 'true story' (having not seen it yet, we're not exactly at liberty to confirm just how true) of the Cristero War, when Mexican Roman Catholics in the 1920's rose up against the persecution of the Mexican government and fought a civil war in which at least 90,000 people were killed.
