It's getting to be so that Westsiders can't even get snobby about Culver City anymore. Long vilified as the land of big box stores and nondescript strip malls, CC now boasts a legitimately vibrant downtown full of galleries, hip (if yuppie-ish) bars, and legitimately exciting restaurants like Akasha, one of Jonathan Gold's "99 Essential L.A. Restaurants" in 2011 with chef Akasha Richmond's unique vision of "organic comfort food" with sustainable-ingredient dishes targeted at both vegetarians and meat-eaters. Which means even if the Black Kale Salad scares you a little bit, the Duck Leg Ragout over green garlic gnocchi should satisfy your caloric needs with some to spare.
