Stop Traffic, Magnolia Bakery Opens Tomorrow

by THEO HENDRIX · July 16, 2010

Just what L.A. needs: ANOTHER overpriced, overrated bakery. This time it's the establishment we believe to be responsible for the inexplicable meteoric rise of The Cupcake. Magnolia Bakery, NYC's famed purveyor of expensive, sugary treats opens its first left coast outpost in West Hollywood tomorrow at noon. Greaaat...

People shat their panties when they got wind that the cupcake revolution culprit was coming to L.A. but unfortunately we can't share in their excitement because the more we hear about and see cupcakes, the more we grow to dislike them. Like, what's the BFD? Why's everyone so stoked about cupcakes? The frosting-coated sweets have exploded on the dessert scene in the last few years, giving rise to the emergence of one cupcake shop after another. Every single event these days has the requisite cupcake tower or box and we just don't get it. Whatever happened to brownies? Or doughnuts? Just saying...

For those of you who don't share the same sentiment, congrats. Now you have one more place to wait in a line that extends out the door for tooth-achingly sweet snacks that coast wayyy too much and can be made from a box of Betty Crocker.
