Band Of Skulls & Raphael Saadiq @ The Annenberg Space For Photography
Despite (or perhaps because of) such overwhelmingly high demand that thousands of RSVP'ers have been turned away at the door, KCRW's "Who Shot Rock & Roll" concert series, in conjunction with the Annenberg Space for Photography's exhibit of the same name, has been an overwhelming success. Rather than settling for just booking big names for this series of free outdoor Saturday evening shows in Century City (though of course, that alone is amazing), KCRW has put in the extra thoughtfulness that they're renowned for in programming coordinated, theme-oriented evenings that surprise and delight, like last week's Portugal. The Man led tribute to 70s psychedelic-rock visionaries T. Rex. This week, for the finale of the series, they're celebrating Amnesty International's 50th Anniversary and the corresponding release of a benefit album called Chimes Of Freedom, featuring contemporary covers of Bob Dylan classics. Both soulful multi-instrumental singer/songwriter/producer Raphael Saadiq and British garage-blues rockers Band Of Skulls contributed tracks to the album, and they'll doubtlessly be working some Dylan hits into their sets tonight. This is not to be missed. [Details] [via]
