Frank Ocean @ The Wiltern
If you follow music news at all, you've surely heard Frank Ocean's name in the last two weeks.  After all, Ocean, one of the rising stars (alongside acts like Drake & The Weeknd) of the new movement of sparse, vaguely futuristic r&b, made major headlines on the 4th of July by coming out of the closet in a blog post. This is, of course, a very good thing for the often appallingly homophobic state of mainstream hip-hop and r&b, but as every reviewer is quick to point out, it's Ocean's music- a shimmery, hypnotic and haunting blend of classic soul and space age grooves that his Odd Future collective-mates would be proud of- that deserves center stage. His show at the Wiltern, in support of his brand new album Channel Orange, promises to be one for the ages. [Details] Frank Ocean [via]
