Patrick Soon-Shiong
The other big name in Steve Cohen's bid group is South-African born, UCLA-educated surgeon and scientist Patrick Soon-Shiong, who is also L.A.'s richest man, with a net worth estimated at $7.2 billion. He brings a little bit of West Coast street cred to Cohen’s team, as some parties want to keep the Dodgers locally owned. While Mr. Soon-Shiong is new to the Dodger game, he’s no stranger to sports and team ownership as he has a minority share in the Los Angeles Lakers (which he bought off of Magic Johnson), and has had Lakers season tickets for 25 years.
The advantage of the Cohen/Soon-Shiong group is clear:
cash money. Together, the two men are worth more than $15 billion.
