After weeks of voting in Curbed's contest to rename the faux eastside of L.A. we can finally put this issue to bed and settle on a name. The people have spoken and the name the area commonly but inaccurately referred to as the eastside, consisting of Echo Park, Loz Feliz, Silver Lake, and East Hollywood will henceforth be called North Central, or NorCen, or NCLA.
The name won by a landslide in the vote with East Sunset, Griffith Triangle and Hipster Heights showing the biggest competition. Guys, this is disappointing. North Central won by over 7%. "North Central." Really? How lame... Although we would've liked to have seen the area christened as something with a little humor, like Little Caucasia, Williamsburg West, West Bank or Middle Earth, we would have gladly called taken Near East, East Sunset or Griffith Triangle. Now we're stuck with North Central. "North Central"... sounds like a place I don't ever want to be. Like Wisconsin...

you don't get it. The name is an allusion to South Central and the joke is that the area is the opposite of South Central in terms of demographic, which is also an geographic descriptive.
