Candidate #3
Name: Petra Ecclestone Qualifications: An extremely wealthy, vapid heir to a vast fortune purchasing a baseball team despite no operating experience whatsoever? Hey, it's happened before. Upside: Well, if decades of observation have proved anything, it's that, with some notable exceptions (see Cuban, Mark), the most successful sports owners delegate the bulk of decision-making to people who know what they're doing. In other words, Petra could possibly be a successful owner simply by hiring some smart baseball guys, and then staying out of their way. Lord knows the media attention she'd get just for looking fabulous in the owner's box and pretending to care would go a long way towards the Dodgers' public image rehab, and if any actual problems came up, her old man does have professional sports experience, at least if you consider racing a sport. Downside: Let's hope she doesn't mimic Dubya's career too closely; I'd hate to think of "President Ecclestone" staring down Kim Jong Il someday, although I suppose she couldn't really be worse. And "First Lady" James Stunt? That alone might be worth it. [photo via]
