Conditioning
The key to finishing any marathon is to get your body used to the punishment that you will be dealing it through training and repetition exercises as well as mental exercises, since in many cases, your mind gives up before your body actually does.  To make sure that Alex's mind can keep up with his liver, he's begun a conditioning routine that involves him chugging a beer every 5 minutes and then doing as many Sudoku puzzles as he can. He can also relax his mind a bit knowing that the LA Beerathon has teamed up with the downtown Marriott and Yellow Cab to take the worry out of how, exactly, you get home (or to a nice dark room) after the event. In other words, if you're looking to stay downtown with your family or something on Saturday night, you may want to avoid the Downtown Marriott. FYI, Alex has currently gotten up to 8 beers and 12 successful Sudoku puzzles before we have to pick him up off the floor and lay him on his side in the bathtub.  Don't worry, faithful readers, he's still got 3 more days to get ready and progress near the end is usually exponential.  I think.
