Claire Fontaine, Some Redemptions
One man's trash is literally Claire Fontaine's treasure. In her exhibition at Metro Pictures, Fontaine certainly redeems the disposed cans, turning them into suspended sculptures symbolic of the environment, economy, and ethical standing of society. Taken from the gutter and elevated to eye-level, these items require viewers to refocus their sights and reconsider the worth of their waste.
