Yes, this is a Mona Lisa made of fruit. New York-based artist Klaus Enrique captures his intricate arrangements of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and animal remains in haunting portraits that illuminate the ephemeral, preserving the figures in a moment of ripeness before their inevitable decay.
Inspired by the 16th century paintings of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Enrique takes the interplay between the real and the surreal one step further by creating actual sculptures of natural materials and photographing them, making a point of the beauty and fleetingness of life.
